Detailed programme
The wild forest reindeer or Finnish caribou (Rangifer tarandus fennicus) is the native reindeer from Finland and northwestern part of Russia. They live in the boreal taiga forest and are migrating twice a year from/to summer/winter pastures. The numbers are around 2000 individuals in all Finland, living in three separated areas.
The safari will take you into the spirit of the taiga forest . We will follow the trails of the reindeer on foot, by car or with snowshoes/skies, depending on the season. We will be trackers: reading the signs which the reindeers have leaft behind – droppings, sleeping places and trails. And at the end, with some luck, we will get the supreme chance to observe and to photograph them.
