The new service will operate once a week on Fridays from 17 December 2027 to 24 March 2028, connecting Arctic Lakeland directly with Frankfurt, one of Europe’s leading international aviation hubs. Thanks to the Lufthansa Group’s extensive route network, travelling to the region will become significantly easier not only from Germany, but also from across Europe, North America and Asia. Germany is already the most important international source market for Arctic Lakeland and this new connection will make the region’s unique winter adventures and local culture more accessible than ever.

Located just 1–2.5 hours from Kajaani Airport, the Wild Taiga’s tourism companies offer easy access to unforgettable nature and cultural experiences in Kuhmo, Suomussalmi and the surrounding area – from wildlife watching to diverse nature excursions, local cuisine and rich cultural heritage. Combined with other Arctic Lakeland destinations, the region offers excellent opportunities also for longer touring holidays.

The Frankfurt–Kajaani route is a result of long-term cooperation between tourism organisations and destinations across the Arctic Lakeland region. Negotiations with Discover Airlines were conducted during the Arctic Lakeland Charter development project. The improved accessibility will also create new opportunities for international tour operators to develop attractive travel packages that combine experiences throughout Arctic Lakeland.
